Here’s a little vid of a century ride I did with a friend over the weekend from Denver to Lyons and back. Cycling for 6 hours was a great chance to work on my nutrition plan for my next 70.3 in a few weeks. At this point I’m pretty clear on roughly how much I need to eat, but how much I have to drink just depends on how hot it is. Also my butt hurts 😑 . I did throw in a few efforts throughout this ride, some short 400 watt bursts and plenty of sustained efforts in the high 200s. But mostly I hung around 160-220 watts depending on how I was feeling and what was practical with other cyclists, cars etc around. Advanced Core Training # Actually, this is TRUNK training. As @johnwelbourn says, why would you want to be compared to a the weakest part of a fruit, What’s the strongest part of a tree? That’s right, the trunk. # There’s only so many crunches and planks you could do strengthen your trunk. So here are 3 advanced trunk exercises that will have huge benefit to your fitness in terms of being able lift heavier weights, as well as limit your chance of injury. # 1️⃣ Pallof Press with Plate Rebound - this exercise is an excellent exercise to challenge your entire abdominal region to resist rotation. We add the plate to further challenge your trunk area. 2️⃣ Overhead Pallof Press (Split Squat Hold) - this is much more challenging, holding a split squat stance and pressing a band overhead. The name of the game is posture and position. 3️⃣ Weighted Lateral Bear Crawl - This exercise is one you probably haven’t seen much of. Adding weight to the back further challenges you to keep a neutral spine, and it also works on improving coordination, and shoulder and hip strength.
