It’s really easy to kind of “hang out” in upward dog (urdhva mukha svanasana) and not do much actual work in the pose. (Which - who knows? - could be one reason why quite a few yogis claim to dislike this how this pose feels in their body.) . But did you…
It’s really easy to kind of “hang out” in upward dog (urdhva mukha svanasana) and not do much actual work in the pose. (Which - who knows? - could be one reason why quite a few yogis claim to dislike this how this pose feels in their body.) . But did you know that there’s actually some good work & stronger muscular engagement to be found in the pose if we’re intentional about it? . Here’s one way that I like to find that work. By starting in plank pose, I already have my core working quite a bit (which is good!) . Then I flip one foot over, followed by the other, to turn this into a pointed toe plank (core working even more now! 🔥) . Then I lower my pelvis toward the floor from here, moving with control and keeping my anterior core working *as it lengthens* (eccentric contraction) . I pause in up dog and notice how engaged and supported it feels - very different from the “floppy” version of the pose that it’s very tempting & easy to do! 😉 . Then I press through my feet and lift my pelvis back up (concentric contraction of the anterior core) to pointed-toe plank. . If that was enough of a challenge, stick with that. But if you’d like to add more load to the equation, try *one-legged up dog*: lift one leg off the floor in pointed-toe plank and slowly lower into a one-legged up dog! (And lift back up) . Pes hlavou hore • Nohy a panva je nad zemou a paže sú rovné. • Ásana je viac zameraná na silu. Pes s hlavou hore buduje silu v rukách, nohách, zápästiach a ramenách, čo z neho robí skvelú prípravu pre pokročilejšie jogové pozície, ktoré si vyžadujú silu a flexibilitu. • Zvyšuje energiu a zlepšuje náladu. • Pomáha zlepšovať držanie tela posilnením chrbtice, hornej časti chrbta a pomáha vám aktívne sa otvárať cez hrudník. Výborná pozícia, ak sedíte celý deň! Obe pozície sú skvelé na zaradenie do vašej praxe. Skúste každý deň najprv začať od kobry. The first ever Yoga class I went to, last year this time, the teacher had told me that I'll not be able to do a Chaturanga because I was not strong enough. It wasn't new information for me, I knew that I had ZERO upper body strength 🤷 But what he didn't know was that that can change! With efforts!! 🤦 . . I've been practising Chaturanga Dandasana for the last 6 months & I've been doing them on my knees! NO SHAME THERE. I prefer to scale down to giving in to my ego & injuring myself/doing things badly. Even today, if I do 3 full Chaturangas, I do the next 10 on my knees. And that's because I'm a WIP. I'm building strength & I'm in no hurry 😊😊 . . Você sabe a diferença entre a postura da cobra e do cachorro olhando para cima? ⠀ Muita gente não tem bem claro qual a diferença entre as posturas da Cobra (Bhujangasana) e do Cachorro olhando para cima (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana). ⠀ São posições importantes que fazem parte da Saudação ao Sol, então resolvemos trazer uma dica explicando isso. ⠀ A principal diferença entre essas duas posturas é a posição das pernas, na cobra as coxas estão apoiadas no chão e no cachorro olhando para cima são as pontas dos pés que estão no chão e as pernas ficam fora. ⠀ As mãos nos dois casos devem estar firmemente apoiadas no chão com os dedos bem espalhados e posicionadas ao lado do corpo na altura dos mamilos. ⠀ Os braços que podem ser diferentes nas duas posturas, pois no cachorro olhando para cima eles devem estar esticados e na cobra eles podem estar flexionados, pois o objetivo principal da posição é abrir a parte superior do peito, somente depois vem a retroflexão da lombar com os braços esticados. Mas para quem tem alguma restrição na lombar ou ao esticar os braços o quadril sai do chão, deve-se flexionar um pouco os braços para manter as coxas e os quadris no chão abrindo bem o peito. ⠀ Nas duas posturas é muito importante cuidar para o pescoço não se esconder entre os ombros. I’ve learned that whenever I’m going through stuff i tend to avoid people, hid myself, not eat and sit in dark clouds alone. It seems to be a habit and i am now realizing that. Self reflecting & self help has been a goal for me in the past couple of years. We are the products of the society & our past experiences. It has hurt and wounded my heart. I been afraid to feel and let my emotions take over because i always end up hurting one way or another. Maybe that’s just who i am and that is okay. We all learned differently. I just shared a new tutorial on my YouTube channel about Upward-Facing Dog, focusing on creating length and building strength💪🏽 You can check it out through the link in my IG Stories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s often considered a beginner’s pose because we learn it so early on in the Sun Salutations. But an Ashtanga friend of mine confessed to me he only feels like he has recently started to understand this pose - and he’s practising Intermediate Series! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s a lot going on in #UpwardFacingDog and since it only lasts for one inhalation, it can be really hard to fit it all in. So I though it might be worth spending some time to break it down☺️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Things you will learn in this tutorial: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣How to use “traction” to create length in the spine (instead of just crunching the lower back!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣How to engage the feet, legs and hands to create a solid foundation ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3️⃣How to look upwards without crunching the neck ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even if you’ve been practising a good while, check it out!
