Seeing the picture
What is seeing?
On Sunday I learned a broader way of seeing, as I was listening to the artist talk of blind photographers from Berlin. #wiesbadenerfototage2019
They challenged a lot of us in thinking what is really seeing. When we look at a photo, is that when we see the image, or is it only after we have built a mental image of the picture we are looking at? For the photographers without sight this happens through description. Thank you Susanne, Silja, Gerd and Mary!
Yesterday evening I saw in Caligari in Wiesbaden the film "Shot in the dark" (2017) filmed and directed by Frank Amann. This is a film, that not only describes the work of the three blind photographers from the US, but actually describes what art is about in general (if I may borrow the words of a friend of mine - thank you!). I can really recommend this film!
These few encounters are important to me, they are reminders to extend the seeing beyond looking.
Do you wonder why the grass seems greener? I wish I was less distracted by could-bes and more present in my haves. Green is pretty though ...
