My first visit to @nooranikababhouse for a farewell lunch for a dear coworker last week and it was absolutely delish! But don’t tell anyone; the lunch buffet is incredible and easy to get in and out within the lunch hour. Have you been?
While whizzing down 64 on your way from here to there, a shock of yellow and orange peaking through the loblollies and poplars may catch your eye. On a frontage road just a piece beyond Great Wolf Lodge outside of colonial Williamsburg sits @pierces_pitt_bbq . In my estimation there are really 2 major types of BBQ joint: newer places with immensely talented pitmasters creating art with smoke and restaurants like Pierces. This is a spot where a gentleman came 50 years ago with a recipe and a dream. They have been making hickory and oak kissed meats for decades since and they have perfected their craft. Nothing fancy, nothing chic, just solidly delicious meat delivered quickly. Their pulled pork and pulled chicken were both moist with a perfect smoke flavor. The sauce is Memphis inspired: sweet, vinegar and spice all dance on the tongue in a pleasant balanced way. I didn't delve too deep into the sides but I had to get the baked beans. They were so delicious and had little bits of hot dog cut up in them which tickled my inner child's everlasting love of beanie weenies. it’s my birthday🎉 some people don’t care much about them, but i love them😎 any reason to celebrate life, and i’m in. thinking about what my life looks like now, i couldn’t have imagined or prayed for anything better. doesn’t mean it’s perfect by any means, but it is good & i am GRATEFUL. for health, for family & a new babe on the way, for friends, for good relationship with food, for an incredible God & so many things🙌🏻
today was full of relaxation, going church with my boys, spending time with family, getting to read my book, lots of texts, calls, messages, cards, sweet treats (like so many we’re gonna need help eating them), & finished with thomas’ italian wedding soup, local bread, butter, & 2 slices of shyndigz cake🎂 & special shout out to one heck of a husband @thomas_daddio that makes my life so full. i am so blessed by you & thank you for making me feel so special & loved❤️
& i just wanted to tell you all that i am so grateful for each & every one of you. for making this instagram possible, for hanging with our little family, for making our recipes, & for always being so supportive & kind. my heart is exploding & i appreciate you all! this is going to be the best year yet, i just know it🥳

So... intern life has been ~going~. I am learning a lot every day and for that I am thankful for, but it’s also exhausting and a bit anxiety-filling. I’ve had to adapt my method of learning a lot, and sometimes the constant feedback is exhausting. I’m one of those people who thrives on what is familiar, so there have been some days that have left me feeling a little 😬. I never felt the “impostor syndrome” as much during my MS year, but now it’s revved up to 100. Not to mention that this has been a huge life change for me. The transition from college to adulthood, on top of being in a full-time unpaid internship, has been rough, and for the first time in a very long time I have found myself feeling 5 billion emotions at once. Life really did do a complete 180 in just a couple of months.
All I can really do is remind myself that 1. I just have to get through this ONE year and that 2. I just have to focus on BEING BETTER every day. No one is expecting me to be perfect, but it’s hard to not freak out when you are already extremely hard on yourself and very self-conscious. I’m heading to Blacksburg next weekend for a wedding, so I think that will be a very much needed break. Here’s to the last 2 weeks of medicine rotations!
