You may or may not have seen the new guidelines from the Heart Foundation. If not here’s a brief overview: 👉🏽 Full-fat dairy is back in! Unless you suffer from high cholesterol or are overweight then low-fat dairy may be beneficial. So yes I’ll keep ordering that full cream latte that tastes so bloody good.
👉🏽 There is no limit on the amount of eggs you consume. One of the cheapest forms of good quality protein! Type 2 Diabetics are given a limit of less than 7 per week.
👉🏽 Red meat, as always has it’s limits. There’s numerous links to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke with excess consumption. Less than 350grams per week! Of course this is for your average person! If you’re an athlete, fairly active individual or a female, then your limits may differ.
👉🏽 Plant-based protein sources are your go to! They’re not only good for your heart but your gut bacteria will LOVE you! The more variety of plants each weeks = a greater variety in ‘good’ gut bacteria.

After talking to hubby, I headed to the wildlife refuge to walk, dance and tai chi. Felt like Dr Dolittle when the deer came over to look at what I was doing. A little piece of magic. Appreciate moving your body
Once you start moving your body with purpose and intent every day, you actually learn to appreciate that time. It’s “me time”. It’s connects your soul to your body. There will come a time where you can what you do well enough that you may actually get a bit bored with it, and it becomes a chore.
Exercise shouldn’t be a chore.
You shouldn’t enjoy everything.

Finding movement that challenges you, that you fail at, is so good for you. It’s the whole premise of getting stronger, you overload your muscles until you fail, then you recover, then you keep going. You will see you get stronger. It’s also about practice, about learning new movement patterns. You don’t learn it if you fail and walk away saying “this is too hard”. The point of #crossfit is to create adaptation and to improve your ability to do work, lots of work, lots of different ways. Which improves your health and quality of life.

These five pillars are important to maintain mental wellbeing. ⠀
1. Getting outdoors early in the morning. By getting fresh sunlight onto the body will help your natural circadian rhythms balance. This what sets your sleeping and waking times. ⠀
2. Getting good quality sleep is absolutely essential for your overall wellbeing. If you are having difficulty in this area or are not getting at least 6 hours of sleep a night, then you should be seeking further guidance.⠀
3. Belonging to a community. We need to stay connected with people around us to give ourselves a sense of purpose and belonging. ⠀
4. Movement daily. We need to be trying to do some form of movement everyday even if it is just a walk around the block. Movement will increase your bodies relaxation & feel good hormones and reduce your stress hormones.⠀
5. Eating a balanced diet. We all know that eating right is very important. Try getting lots of colourful vegetables into your diet. The "smile diet" or Mediterranean Diet is a good place to start. This one has had studies showing its beneficial effects on mood. ⠀

Happy Monday eve! Have you started this coming week off on the right foot? Have you set yourself up for success?? Sundays are traditionally meal prepping day (and soon to be football!🏈🍁) My feed is always filled with beautifully plated food that has been cooking all day and all laid out in matching containers. I see banana quinoa waffles, greek yogurt with homemade granola, homemade meatballs with sauce from scratch and balsamic chicken with roasted veggies over cauliflower rice. Yes, this stuff does sound delicious but it also sounds like I would have to start cooking at the crack a$$ of dawn in order to make everything. I love cooking and baking but that’s a little much for me. Usually I make a few different easy dishes for the week. Usually egg cups or hard boiled eggs, veggie sticks, and a lunch dish. Sometimes if I know schedules are going to be tight between Ron and I, I will prep some things for dinner like taco meat. Last weekend things got crazy and the beginning of the week was equally just as crazy. But I still meal prepped, the lazy way. When I say the lazy way, it wasn't take-out, or frozen TV dinner style lunches.
Fast and lazy food and be healthy too. So here it is a snapshot of the lazy meal prep, this picture was taken on my lunch break, that I was working through (of course) What is it? 🌱1 Veggie patty, cut up 🍚Frozen steamable rice- really look into to it LIFE SAVER! 🥫Canned green beans (no added salt) **Don’t hate on the canned veggies. Yes, fresh is best but canned veggies are great for you too.
P.S. If you are that person who is waking up before the sun to start you meal prep. A+ to you, and I want to come eat your food. And if you ARE NOT that person but you are still making healthy choices and setting yourself up for success A+ to you too!!🤩🤩
