If you don’t order the spag bol at an Italian restaurant, are you really a basic white girl?? #noshame
Hiding ice cream sandwiches from my children by wrapping them up like frozen meat. I have no shame. I bought them two boxes of organic yogurt and froze it case they want a treat. 😜 #winning#momtricks#noshame
Advocating at Hill Day in DC. If you’re interested in some of the points compiled by the National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery that many of us used to prompt conversations with our representatives, swipe right. ———
I also made a point to repeat the message below: “As someone who was forcefully hospitalized, I feel enraged and disheartened at how harmful our systems truly are to all who have to navigate them, both as recipients of so-called care, as well as providers. ...
What needs to be known today, is that the systems we have created to care for our most compromised and marginalized communities often REPLICATE our original traumas.
For example, as someone who survived sexual assault, being forcefully hospitalized closely reactivated immense pains of having my power and decision making being taken away, as well as things being done to me without my approval. The time I spent in a psychiatric unit was beyond devastating and only exasperated the crises I was navigating. I now work passionately to transmute the pain our psychiatric system has caused me and so many others, through advocating and educating what TRUE trauma informed care could look like.” #peeradvocate#livedexperience#humanrights#peersupport#nothingaboutuswithoutus#madpride#madliberation#metoo#metoomovement#intersectionality#speakup#speakout#noshame#fuckpharma#trauma#traumainformed#traumastewardship#unite#weneedchange
It’s that that time in July when my teacher brain turns back on 😆 I decided to grab some wine, turn on Netflix, and do what I love... Preparing for my next group of 2nd graders 😍 #teachertime#summerprojects#noshame
If you want to heal you have to acknowledge that there is trauma. Slow down, stop being so busy, actually feel the pain and stop pretending it’s not there... because it will come up at some point and it’s not going to be in waves (those same waves you’ve been suppressing) but a freight train... You won’t be able to work, function normally and your body is going to hurt... So... Stop pretending and begin to heal.
Hellooooo new friends! 👋🏼💕 *sending you a virtual hug*
There are so many new faces around here so I wanted to take a quick minute to say hi & share a little bit about me so you get can to know the girl behind the screen!
My name is Emily and I’m a certified health coach + hormone expert. I’m super passionate about helping women balance their hormones so they can lose weight, feel confident af and have easy, pain free periods. I’m obsessed with gut health and anything period related- yeah I’m THAT girl 🙋🏼♀️ anywaaays
I love kombucha and green smoothies but I equally love me some tacos and a good margarita (with salt). My main food groups include avocados, sweet potatoes and chocolate 🥑🍠🍫
I spend my free time soaking up the California sunshine or in the kitchen, whipping up new #balancedbabe recipes. I’m constantly listening to audiobooks and podcasts- usually either self-development orrrr true crime 🤷🏼♀️ I’m a bit of a baby grandma so you can usually catch me in bed by 9 pm 😴 #noshame
I have struggled HARD with health so I know how it feels to be frustrated and overwhelmed by all of the info out there about how to be healthy- and I gotta say babes...most of it is TOTAL BS. I have tried it all- veganism, plant based, paleo, keto, running, HIIT, yoga, intermittent fasting, you name it.
Now I just focus on listening to my body, eating wholesome & nourishing food and moving my body in a way that makes me feel happy and energized- and as a coach, I help women do the same!
I’m so excited you’re here ❤️ if you love what you’re learning- subscribe to my newsletter for even more amazing content! LINK IN BIO
That moment you’re mid sentence explaining to your coworkers and boss about the workouts you do from home + how much you love the nutrition plan...while scarfing down pizza and a cupcake😂 #noshame#surprisepartymademedoit
So I think they got the point about balance and enjoying the treat meals!
I don’t just enjoy pizza and cupcakes now that I’m pregnant. I thoroughly enjoyed them before 👌🏽 Who doesn’t love them?
BUT I do try to:
1. Prep my meals every Sunday to fuel my bod with clean eats while focusing on portions.
2. Look at food as fuel, not comfort.
3. Enjoy those treats in moderation—without the guilt!
It took a long time to get past the guilt part and the diet mindset. But you can do it too, sister. And I’ll hold you accountable to that!
Even when she's laughin'
Part of her is worryin' there's somethin' she didn't do
She only sits four minutes, she's a hummin'bird in the livin' room
She's a silhouette smilin' with the weight of the world on her chest
She'll move a mountain for you by the afternoon
A mother never rests
She works in colors
It's her and the sun
Wakin' up early, bringin' light to everyone
She's countin' on angels
And she's hopin' they're there
If you aren't playing the sound in this video, you should. I can't even get through the second verse of this song without crying (if you know me, you're not shocked). The emotions of being a mom are more than words most of the time, but these words reach inside my chest and grab ahold of my heart.
Part of Hygge is spending quality time with family or a close-knit group of people. We've had a busy week, which means I've been ridden with mom guilt for feeling like I couldn't give Sailor as much attention or playtime as I normally do. And this moment with her, well, it's everything I needed. If you're a mom or mom-to-be, listen to the song in this video, A Mother Never Rests by @lorimckennama, (it's just a clip so go download the whole song) and give yourself a pat on the back, cry if you want, just let these lyrics fill you up and remind you of how much you do even when you sleep, even when you laugh.
