Transition To Thursday: Deodorants & Antiperspirants
You’ve probably heard switching your deodorant is important for health due to the toxic ingredients however let me explain WHY this is an important transition.
One of the reasons why it’s important to switch to safer deodorant/antiperspirants is because are underarms are a place where we commonly shave. And when we shave under the arms this creates tiny openings that allow even greater quantities of chemicals to make their way into the body.
The key ingredient of concern, outside the fragrances, and parabens, etc., is
A L U M I N U M.
Deodorants are intended to simply mask odor and are therefore classified as a cosmetic by the FDA.
Antiperspirants on the other hand are classified as a drug by the FDA because they perform a biological function; they prevent sweating, and it’s the aluminum in these products that are responsible for that.
There is research that suggests that aluminum in breast tissue might be causing oxidative damage to tissues, and that aluminum increases migration/invasion of human breast cancer cells.
Also many antiperspirants and deodorants contain chemicals like triclosan. Triclosan is an endocrine disrupting chemical that seems to directly affect the thyroid.
Transition for deodorant is simple but can take time since genetics, diet, stress, and body chemistry are all different, and some deodorant products will simply not work for everyone

How to find YOUR weight loss calories:
There are multiple ways to do this but here is the Harris Benedict formula:
1️⃣Find your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):
655 + (4.35 x weight in lbs) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age years)
🏋🏻♀️THEN find your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE aka maintenance calories): ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BMR (from above) x activity level
Sedentary = 1.2 x BMR
Lightly active = 1.375 x BMR
Mod. active = 1.55 x BMR
Very active = 1.9 x BMR
(Note-ppl tend to WAY overestimate their expenditure. If you train hard 1 hour/day but are otherwise really sedentary then take that into account and start low.
Then subtract 250-500 calories (I recommend starting with 250 and moving up after a few WEEKS as needed-not day. Give it time y’all!)

It’s important to keep protein HIGH for fat loss, which is why I recommend tracking macros!
🎊Also note we are NOT meant to be in a calorie deficit forever-only for a short period of time then go up to maintenance calories 👌🏻
