One of the biggest myths I still hear is that you need to lift light weights for a lot of reps to get “toned”. : That’s BS. I’m not sure where this came from but let’s talk about things in order of importance. : First what is “toned”? For me it’s a way to describe how lean someone wants to be to allow their muscles to look more defined. : The most important thing in order to lean out is your diet. There is an energy balance between how many calories your body uses throughout the day and how much you eat. If you eat less than you use you lose fat. It won’t matter how you workout if your diet isn’t on point. : Let’s assume your diet is 👌🏼. The next step is to lift heavier than you think. I’m a fan of any and all movement but lifting heavy is optimal for getting lean. : When we want to lose fat we want to hold on to as much muscle as possible. Cutting calories doesn’t make this an ideal situation so we need to give our body a reason to hold onto our muscle. We do this by lifting the same way we would want to build muscle. Generally heavier not lighter weights. : Like I said before I’m a fan of any kind of exercise you want to do and if you’re still not into it and won’t lift heavy, well, so be it. I squatted on the rack today (only 65lbs), did lunges, DB deadlifts, sumo deadlifts,cable kickbacks and some bicep curls 💪🏼 My legs are beat to say the least, and I’m much weaker than previous preggy me but I feel AWESOME 🤗 I really think that staying active my whole pregnancy so far has helped me feel more “normal”! Still managed to do 6 crap reps at 100kg for high bar followed by 4 sets of 8 better reps at 90kg. Having said that, it was all beltless coz I forgot my belt so I’m pretty happy. I don’t think I’ve ever squatted at 100kg without a belt before. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m going to be walking like a cripple tomorrow. FIX MAN BOOBS by @apfau - If you enjoy my content, make sure to follow me, @apfau for daily fitness content 😁. - First, let me define “man boobs” as having excess fat on your chest. It can sometimes be confused with gynocomastia which is a hormonal issue but that is not what I am addressing here. However, more often than not, people who think they have gyno just have excess fat around their chest. - The first mistake people usually make is trying to spot reduce fat around their chest by doing high rep chest training. You cannot choose where your body burns fat first. Doing high reps on chest exercises does not burn extra chest fat. Instead, you should work your chest 2-3 times a week with resistance training and focus on building your chest which in combination with losing fat, will improve the overall appearance of your chest over time. - A second mistake is relying on fat burners and other supplements to burn the fat. There are no safe, legal supplements that will make any noticeable difference when it comes to your fat loss results. Instead, focus on a conservative caloric deficit with enough protein. - Lastly, results don’t happen overnight and you should not try to rush the process. Don’t overly restrict calories and don’t go crazy with the cardio. You should use cardio as a tool to burn additional calories to aid in fat loss but you should do it in addition to weight training. I don't use the Smith machine often because it can force you into an unnatural movement pattern with some exercises, but it's good for assisted sumo deadlifts! After ploughing through all the kettlebells, we're going for barbell sumos with Deborah. We'll be using a regular barbell soon but the Smith machine will help with balance. Sumo deadlifts are generally good for people with long limbs, if you're tall and find conventional deadlifts difficult, sumo deadlifts might be a better option for you. BarefacedFitness💪
