The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is the only place is Sri Lanka that functions as an orphanage, captive, nursery and a breeding ground for the elephants in need, and also this is the home for the homeless elephants who needs special care.
This little sweets just had a well-check at the pediatricians office this morning. Two needles, and I was the person to hold his tiny arms down as he sat in my lap. First one wasn't so noticable for him, but oh God that second cry was horrible for me to hear. It really hurt him good this time. I know they have to poke/jab babies quick to get the meds/needle in/out fast. But it's still not pretty to witness, or hear his cries. Then all day long he pointed at that leg. My little brave sweetheart. Guys, I hated (who likes them anyway lol) needles growing up. I remember getting so nervous even on the drive over knowing I'd have to get them done. I still hate them, and try to remain still, and silent when getting blood work or even a flu shot. Gah. .
Anyway, a pic of a few of my fave things in one shot. Bebs. Duh. Kinda a palm tree plant. Bebs pants (from @ryleeandcru LAST summer. This is the 2ND summer he's been wearing them! Size 12-18mths. Can't wait for their fall line to drop in a few daysm I'm buying more). Oh, and this stroller ( @uppababy MINU) it's our everyday use one. I keep it in my trunk. Not a sponsored post. But was gifted to me nearly a year ago. Has many miles on it. 😂
Don't know why my caption is so long. I'm going to bed. 👋🏻
This has easily become my favorite thing in the world to witness. ⠀
I can’t believe my baby girl has the BEST aunt in the universe. She’s so dang lucky!⠀
The cuddling, book reading, movie watching, adventuring, pancake cooking, and laughing never ends. It’s a constant thing in our household. ⠀
The three of us Schussler Gals living under the same roof, starting a new journey together, getting closer and making memories. ✨ ⠀
Ugh. Be still, my heart. I can’t wait to see these two deepen their bond. 💕⠀
Mis mejores compañeros de aventura. Me encanta poder ver el mundo a través de sus ojos.
Do you know that we offer Birthday and Christmas Registry? It is my answer to buying less but buying better toys. Toys that can last for generations and won’t break quicker than you can say “party bags”. However, these toys usually are dearer obviously. So, I’m offering the service for guests to contribute to 1 big ticket item instead of cheap plastic toys. Want to know more? Check the link on bio to find out more or DM me. #bettergifting#consciousparenting .

We spent today recovering from another fun summer weekend! It was jammed packed with ferry rides, island time, a four year old birthday party, a fifty year old birthday party, an au pair get together, time in the lake... basically we did ALL OF THE THINGS and it was good. My heart is full and my body is tired. As much as I love planning trips in the summer, I think it’s so important to stay in town some weekends so we can say “yes” to local events and friend invitations and last minute happenings. There is no better place to be in the summer than the PNW. ⛰☀️ #totallybiased
Momma is back! Literally, my back has finally started to feel better!! Thank you for the well wishes. I’m just excited to get back in routine but don’t worry, I’m just gonna do a stretch workout, I’ll save the cardio/weights for tomorrow. 🤪
One of my favorite quotes is “If you want something bad enough you’ll find a way, if not, you’ll find an excuse.” I want a healthy pregnancy. I want to be motivated during my postpartum journey and look back to now going, if I could do it THEN, I can sure as heck do it NOW. I want to be an example to my girls. And most importantly, I want to prove what can happen when you don’t give up on yourself. Mommas, ya feel me?
Cheers to everyone who conquered this Monday. Cheers to anyone who made this their official day 1. Cheers to all who celebrated the little victories today. And cheers to you, for being the badass you are. 👊🏼
It is National Photography Day, so I thought I would (over) share this session I did with my daughter the other night. She had been playing outdoors all day, smelling like outdoors in the summer time, dirty feet from running barefoot in the grass, went kayaking over the weekend and her hair was so tangled I couldn't get a brush through it. You might look at these and think it was a perfectly planned photo session, in reality I bribed her about 15 minutes before to take these. I threw her hair up in a messy bun and we rushed outside to catch the last bit of golden light. We ran, we danced, played all of 15 minutes and I love these photos more because we just rolled with it and had fun! Parents, remember, even if your kids are summertime smelly, have dirty feet and tangled hair, it's all about these little moments, genuine expressions and fun! <3
Can you tell we love slime! 😅 Check out our latest blog post with the recipe for this clear slime! Link in Bio.

Have you ever scratched your head and wondered how on earth a business that makes blocks out of driftwood could possibly be #ecofriendly, #earthconscious and #sustainable?
Well...over the next few days we will share some of our not-so-secrets with you.
We use ALL our offcuts. We have hardly any to start with (1 bucket every 12 months or so). There are so many beautiful features in our driftwood pieces that are just begging to be made into blocks and shared!
All our sawdust is composted and used in our veggie garden as mulch. Everything else is used to heat our home 🔥
***Holiday*** It's weird to think that even though we're essentially on a year-long holiday, we've actually felt like we've been on holiday this week. We leave #playapotrero tomorrow (albeit for another town just up the Pacific coast) and we've had a wonderful, slow week of swimming, playing in the sand and the waves, being on an actual nap schedule and generally taking it easy. It's made a lovely change from our mammoth road trips but now we're ready to move on and explore a bit more of Costa Rica's coastline before we head into the rainforest!
Today, I held you anyway.
The first time I held you, you were just seconds old. You snuggled into my chest, just like it was your home. I was sore, and exhausted, and overwhelmed. But I held you anyway.
5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months my chest continued to be your safe place. And holding you there, became mine. I found peace in the rise and fall of your breath. Our heartbeats would sync and your little snores and coos became the soundtrack to my days. And there were dishes, and laundry to be done. Messes to be swept and errands to be run. But I held you anyway.
You grew and grew and soon your time on my chest became less and less. You had places to explore and things to learn. You soon found comfort and joy in other places. And a quick glance ,hug or kiss on the head was all you needed from me to comfort you. But at the end of the night, your head usually found its place on my chest. The rise and fall of your breath, so familiar. And I was tired, and smelly, and touched out. But I held you anyway.
Then those nights on my chest became less. You could fall asleep on your own and once again needed me less. You went of to school and the time that was once filled with your head on my chest became me wondering what you were thinking, and doing and learning. And nights became busy and books and goodnight kisses became rushed.
And then today, you needed me. Your tummy and head hurt. And there were dishes to be done, and messes to be swept, and toys to put away. But I held you anyway.
I know gradually and all at once, the day will come that you won't need me the way you do now. New challenges will bring new forms of comfort. You'll grow and I'll grow. And there will be chores to be done, work to complete, and moves to be made. But I will always hold you anyway ❤️ #musingsonmotherhood
Waiting to reel in a striper and give it a big kiss like on Chasing Monsters he said 🐡🐠🦀
In honor of #WorldPhotographyDay - had to sneak in some of my favorite moments from today. Big sister said, “Ella, if we swing the same height at the same time it means we’re sisters!!” 🤣🤣 Love the way these goofballs think!
Our newest adventure: this little guy. 🥰 I love quiet moments with him asleep in my arms, just resting and enjoying this sweetness. ✨ I’m trying to be better at printing our photos so we have tangible reminders of our memories, forever. This beautiful layflat photo book from @artifactuprising is my new favorite and one I will always cherish! I filled the pages with our life this summer and the little adventures we’ve been going on, as a new family of five! It was so easy to create, and the outcome is absolutely stunning! 💕 These photo books would be a great way to store photos from family vacations, holidays and big events, too! 🙌🏻 Grab your own photo book with code KATIE15 for 15% off your order in the next week! Have you had any grand adventures this summer? #ad#AUphotoroadtrip#Tellon
