Those “good” and “bad” food lists aren’t your friend. The “eat this” and “don’t eat that” practice isn’t going to get you very far. Here’s why. Have you ever tried to tell a toddler they can’t have something? Have you ever tried to tell a teenager they are forbidden from seeing someone? Have you ever told yourself you aren’t allowed to watch a show on Netflix? How’s that gone? Probably not very well. If we are being completely honest with ourselves, adults are just toddlers trapped in bigger bodies with more responsibilities and expectations. Although we’re wiser and more sensible, we still don’t like being told what we can and cannot do. Have you ever told yourself that you can’t have a food you like, and suddenly you start thinking about it more and more? When we restrict, our brains seem to fixate on that thing more. So when you say “I can’t have ______ anymore”, you think about it more, and therefore have to practice restraint and willpower more often to avoid it. Eventually you break down and because you’ve drawn this hard line in the sand of what constitutes success and failure, you are really hard on yourself. Because you feel guilty, you keep eating that food, promising to stop eating it next Monday. Lather, rinse, repeat. So what’s the solution? I’ll talk more about this tomorrow, but for now, a good practice is focusing on ADDING vs SUBTRACTING. Here’s an example, if you find yourself in the staff room around 2-3pm everyday munching on sugary snacks for a “pick me up”, consider adding in a healthy snack to try first. If you still need something after you’re finished, you can always go after. If you’re consistently craving sweets after dinner, try adding in a hearty serving veggies to your dinners and see if they change. Speaking of foods I would never be able to give up, I’d probably not be able to survive without my White Cheddar KD. What about you? Day 20 #rawgust This was a perfect meal to end my day! Soaked shiitake mushrooms in lemon, chilli, tahini, sesame oil, soy sauce with spinach, carrots & sesame seeds. This meal literally made my evening! Since coming back from my weekend away. I’ve become lazy preparing food unless I was making it to share. This dish barely took 5 minutes to make, however do soak your shiitakes over night🙂 I use dried shiitakes, they give off more flavour. If I had to add anything else to this dish maybe crushed walnuts for extra texture but it’s damn good either way 😜

Mexican Cauliflower Rice Skillet 👇👇👇⠀ ⠀ Ingredients:⠀ 1 1/4 lbs or 20 oz ground turkey 95 to 97% - 2 and a 1/2 Leans⠀ 1/2 red pepper, diced – 1 Green⠀ 2 tbsp taco seasoning (low sodium) – 12 condiments⠀ 1 cup diced tomatoes – 2 Greens⠀ 12 ounces cauliflower rice (fresh or frozen) - 5 Greens⠀ 1/2 cup unsalted chicken broth - ½ condiment⠀ 1 1/2 cups shredded low fat Cheddar cheese or Mexican Blend – 1 1/2 Lean⠀ 3.75 oz avocado, cubed (2 1/2 Healthy Fats)⠀ ⠀ Directions:⠀ In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until almost cooked through (just a little pink). Add peppers and continue to cook until no longer pink. Stir in the taco seasoning. Add the tomatoes and cauliflower rice and stir to combine. Stir in the broth and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium low and cook until the cauliflower rice begins to soften (8 to 10 minutes for frozen). Sprinkle the skillet with the cheese and cover. Let cook until the cheese is melted, 3 or 4 minutes. Remove from heat and serve. Top with avocado. Oven-Roasted Chicken Shawarma 🙌🍋 4 servings Each serving provides: 1 leaner ½ green 1 healthy fat 3 condiments Ingredients • 2 T lemon juice • 4 t olive oil • 1 clove garlic, peeled, smashed and minced • ¼ t kosher salt • ½ t freshly ground black pepper • ½ t ground cumin • ½ t paprika • ½ t turmeric • ¼ t ground cinnamon • ¼ tsp Red pepper flakes, to taste • 36 ounces raw boneless, skinless chicken breasts • 1 c scallions • 2 T chopped fresh parsley Directions Prepare a marinade for the chicken. Combine the lemon juice, 3 tsp. olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon and red pepper flakes in a large bowl, then whisk to combine. Add the chicken and toss well to coat. Cover and store in refrigerator for at least 1 hour and up to 12 hours. When ready to cook, heat oven to 425 degrees. Use the remaining teaspoon of olive oil to grease a rimmed sheet pan. Add the scallions to the chicken and marinade, and toss once to combine. Remove the chicken and scallions from the marinade, and place on the pan, spreading everything evenly across it. Put the chicken in the oven and roast until it is browned, crisp at the edges and cooked through, about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven, allow to rest 2 minutes, then slice into bits. Lately I’ve just been so so so thankful for where my life has taken me. Officially a registered dietitian and officially licensed in the state of MA (RD, LDN). So beyond happy I got through the past year as a dietetic intern, which was very mentally challenging for me (personal life and career life). I am beyond grateful for my first job as a clinical dietitian @massgeneral ( #2 hospital in the nation!). I have found a place where I feel so welcomed and comfortable. I’m inspired everyday by my patients who are challenged by life’s most scary events. So thankful I am able to be a listening ear and a voice of encouragement to people going through the toughest times in their lives. Lastly, I’m beyond thankful for my own health and mental capacity. Life is very precious. • Anyways..... here’s some bomb ass tortellini! 😋 So simple guys! I just bought a pack of spinach tortellini from @traderjoes, sautéed spinach in garlic & olive oil and added roasted cherry tomatoes.
