Day Thirteen of the #asanaplaybook, Triangle Pose (Trikonasana). Had to get a little creative today. 10 seconds is hardly enough time to set up the frame and get aligned. But let’s be honest, I’m not the star of this photo. 🐱Triangle is known as the “mountain” of the standing series in OHY, and rightfully so since this is usually about the time when I start thinking about taking an early Savasana. But the brilliance of this series (26:2) is that the postures are basically set up for your success. I’ve found that at least attempting the posture is so much more beneficial than trying to “catch my breath” or take a drink or water. So while this posture is challenging in the series, I almost find relief in the second set. A true testament that you’re always capable of more than you think. The mind will “give up” before the body.

I have been behind again in my #asanaplaybook for @thehotroomyoga so on my @withalittle_grace I will fill in days 10-12 but here is my OHY #trikanasana on a cliff side at sunrise in eastern Kentucky for day 13. This is the pose i notice people have the hardest time getting the form right and I am sometimes one of them. The trick is to understand your anatomy and PAY ATTENTION TO THE SPINE. If you have to bend your spine to get your elbow to the knee, then aim for the wrist and the tricep is way too far. Most people are better off having their fingertips SEVERAL inches from the floor. If you have to bend your spine, creating an S curve with the spine and if your jutting your tush back like a duck, then reassess the arm and knee placement and work on using core and thigh strength to prevent you from “resting” into your joints. Keep those shoulders stacked over your hips! Remember repeated poor form will eventually cause injury so make sure you pay good attention to this one in class! It occurred to me today that I don’t take enough Vinyasa classes, which is made clear by the subtle pain on my face in trying to keep my balance 😂 #itsintheeyes. I shy away from Vinyasa because I truly feel like it’s the toughest class for me. But we never like the things we aren’t good at, that’s human nature. And the only way to ever get better is to practice. Until one day, your least favorite posture/modality becomes your favorite — which is exactly how I got around to teaching the Original Hot series.

Then, I heard an instructor say “don’t just contract your tail...ENGAGE your tail.” BAM 💥 picture #2. This practice is FOR LIFE because one day you may hear something that changes everything. More compression, more opening, more backside strength, and more confidence. Confidence? Yep.
