Never ending reconfigurations... Traditionally we work in the studio and never see the paintings outside of that context until they’re all completed and sent off to a gallery somewhere. By being able to hang new and even works in process in this large space and see how they react outside the studio, it has now become an unexpected extension of my whole process. Much in the same way each panel in these paintings is worked on independently over months at a time and then eventually combined into single works, being able to see them in a gallery context numerous times during their making further adds to this improvised, modular way of working.
I wanted to call this Off The Grid. Except, it has an order to it.
It seems that even when we think we’re the ones who are doing it for ourselves and can take the credit, we are still living in a perfectly designed order of cells, atoms, carbon combinations, laws of gravity... We are all unique and have purpose and choices, yes. But. We are not self made. Nothing is ever off the grid. We are all connected. What we do matters. .
So, I need to entitle it something else....
❝Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly
Into the mystic...❞
– Van Morrison
Why is it that, in general, adult humans have a preference for symmetry? Could it be that once we realize that we live in an entropic world, that lacks order and predictability we tend to hold on to whatever might make it predictable?
This is some of the art of @bbavvaria 🐉
This art provokes me and makes me question my comfortability. In this art I see familiar faces and characters, but I see them in a new light. Not always the light I want to see them in. Not always in a comfortable way. Looking at Sathya’s images is never a passive activity. Her images strike a chord and force me to throw out my ideas of comfort and character. This is the most beautiful thing. Sathya’s work IS the work of Eloise in Watching Paint Dry. This is a play about secure complacency versus stepping outside of your bubble at the risk of your warmth and security. We can all relate to this. This art makes me want to keep trying new things- it invigorates and inspires me. This work will change your life and make you want to create. It’s more than just great paintings -it’s a conversation, a flowering thought, a memory, a catalyst. Please check the link in my bio for tickets to see this work up close and personal in a theatrical production/gallery setting.
L'elefante is alive, ringrazia Cesáreo per averlo resuscitato con un trucco da una scatola Ikea. La vida es una maravilla. Tu lo sabes?
