Hey everyone ‼️🔆 My name is Makensie and I’m a senior studying Economics and Political Science. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be taking over the SLU-Madrid Instagram account for a few days to give a little glimpse of my day to day life as a student here. 📚 I spent the spring semester on the main campus and am very excited to be back in Madrid for my final semester. 🇪🇸 I’m graduating in December after 3 years in Spain... and am not looking forward to leaving my second home!! I’m originally from Shawnee, KS, a suburb of Kansas City, MO, USA. 🌻 I love reading, anything DIY, and exploring new cities and different parts of Madrid. 🏙🌇 I hope you enjoy following along in stories, I’m looking forward to sharing what it’s like to live in Madrid!

Kilometer Zero is a plaque on the sidewalk marking the geographic center of #Madrid (and Spain!). It's also the point from which Spain's six radial highways (A1-A6) are measured. Technically speaking, the true geographic center of Madrid may be closer to the Plaza Colón, while the geographic center of the Iberian Peninsula is approximately 10 kilometers south of Sol, near Cerro de los Ángeles in Getafe. #funfact 🤔 There's no doubt, though, that Km 0 marks the cultural center of Madrid! The area is packed with tapas bars, historical monuments, picturesque plazas, great shopping, and more. 🏰🥘🛍️💃 #Sol #makemadridyourcampus #madridmola

SLU #nursing students Sidney Smith and Luke McClanahan gained an international perspective on nursing and healthcare through the Summer Immersion Program in Nursing at SLU-Madrid. According to Sidney, her #clinical experience at Madrid’s Zarzuela hospital showed her the meaning of culturally competent care. “I’ve actually experienced what it’s like to not be part of the majority culture. This gives me a whole new understanding of cultural differences, which will undoubtedly impact how I care for future patients. I understand the stress and fear of not being in a familiar culture, and fully recognize the importance of being respectful of and educated on cultural differences.” 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🏨
