Money is human happiness in the abstract!
Happiness comes to humans in many forms. A pleasant day, a warm smile from a friend, or the scent of your favourite food hanging in the air.
Money can buy one of those three examples. But when you no longer care about the weather, have alienated all your friends, and can no longer truly enjoy food, art or music, to what do you turn?
Money is the abstract form of happiness, in that when you have enough money, you can buy many things to make you happy. But focusing on the money, and not the happiness all around us, can be problematic.
Why is concrete happiness important?
—————————————————While it is true that money cannot buy true happiness, it can be useful for getting a moment of it here and there, from time to time. In this manner, money is actually an abstract of it, something which can be exchanged for a form of it on a short-term basis. But that form is only temporary.
The more concrete types of happiness are much longer lasting and more satisfying. Relationships with other people is one of the deeper and longest lasting of the ways we can find it in our lives. Others include an appreciation of various art forms, from sculpture and painting to music and singing.
Even if you aren’t producing something, many people find happiness and even joy with their favourite music, or looking at their favourite artwork. Others find it in doing things, even small things, usually for the benefit of others. From fixing things to making items as gifts or for sale, great happiness can be found in such activity.
It is up to us, as individuals, to maintain our own happiness. Being happy is a decision we make, and we can reinforce it by humming our favourite song as the world rains on our parade. We can focus on what we have and be happy, or on what we do not have, and be otherwise. Whether it’s music, art or favourite memories, we can reinforce our it when we choose.
Our lives are full of choices. What will you choose, and how do you plan to reinforce it?
The weather was beautiful for Faith and Action night at Clarendon Park. Hot dogs were eaten, faces were painted, balloon animals were made, baskets were shot, bean bags were tossed, playgrounds were climbed, and new relationships were formed!
📌 Julies and Valeri's//Balcon de Europa//Spain
💃 Sometimes you've just got to dance. One of my favourite places to visit when I travel to Nerja is Julie's and Valeri's restaurant at the back of the Balcon. They don't seem to have an Instagram that I can find, otherwise I would tag them. I love visiting this place as the food they serve is an eclectic mix of vegetarian and vegan inspired tapas dishes, served with a dash of Cuban hospitality Sounds like a bit of an odd mix and that there might be little in the middle of that particular Venn diagram; but the food here is delicious. From baked goats cheese, to spicy stuffed aubergine, to the delicious Mojitos, it's definitely somewhere I head to whenever I'm in Nerja. I think they now do offer some non-veggie dishes as well if that's not your thing. I always order vegetarian when I go here though; it's delicious!
🎸 Oftentimes as the night wears on, Valeri will get his guitar out and music will flow through the small restaurant as he encourages patrons to get up and dance, or to sing. I find that the more Mojitos you've had, the more likely you are to get up and dance. I must be at least three Mojitos in here! It's not just about eating and getting out here, it's about the experience. It's good food, good music, good Mojitos, and having a great time in the warm summer evenings with a group of good friends. Would eat there tomorrow if I could.
