Escape Room (2019)
Directed by Adam Robitel
Starring: Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Tyler Labine, Nik Dodani, Jay Ellis, Yorick van Wageningen
While somewhat predictable and dense, the entertainment factor of this flick proves to be enough to maintain the attention span of the average viewer while still managing to take a few risks. Escape Room tells the story of a group of strangers who are selected to navigate their way through a series of escape rooms. The biggest flaw in this film is the screenplay. The writing is very hollow and simplistic without much depth in its implications. It also doesn’t do much to characterize the protagonists past their use for the plot. Many of the dialogues don’t match the previously cemented aspects of each character. The film is also a bit too ambitious with its attempt to start a franchise. While subtle nods at a cinematic future are always okay, this film leaves the series a bit too open ended for my taste. The creativity behind each room however was very unique and enjoyable with each room delivering a different tone and atmosphere for the setting. One of the later rooms took the biggest risk in a scenario that felt very unique and unpredictable. I would delve deeper into what made this scene remarkable but that would spoil the viewing experience. Overall, Escape Room is a thoroughly enjoyable film that just fails to stay afloat with its shallow script. -

Review: Comedy about a woman working in in a predominately male company that feels she is very undervalued. She meets a psychic that gives her special powers where she can hear every mans thoughts. She ends up using her powers to her advantage to make it further in the company. Little does she know it’s not so great to hear everything a man is thinking. Pretty funny movie with cute moments but not amazing! Let me know if you watched it and what you thought! Enjoy 💭
