With two little ones calling for me all day, or shouting, or fighting each other, or just chattering away all day long, we don’t often get a lot of time which feels that calm! And all of that is perfectly okay, I’m not saying I want them to be any different or expect anything else. I just miss that calm, quiet head space feeling sometimes. Recently, I have come back to the way of life that Shoshoni has taught me. At the beginning of yoga school, I hated the nightly meditation. How on earth could I possibly sit still for an hour and just breathe?! By the second week, it just became something we did. Just like having to shower or eat. I didnt hate doing it, it was just a part of our daily routine. By the third week, I couldn't wait for meditation. A time to focus on myself with no distractions. A time to feel my body's energy and whether or not I have too much negative energy or not. I longed for this time to become one with myself and open my chakras. Yoga school was awhile ago, but it is easy to stray from the path we once loved when you go back to the real world where there is so much negativity and just life. However, I have made it a part of my day. I try to meditate at least once a day if not more. And working in customer service, I get yelled at quite a bit... that's why I am so thankful for the little 5 minute breaks where I can center and rid myself of the negative energy... put it to an end before passing it on. If I've learned anything from customer service, it is that we feed off each others energy. Dont say, "I dont have time to meditate". One of the biggest problems I seem to struggle with is making other people’s problems my problem. Well...It’s a new season (Happy Spring🌸). • I’m holding myself accountable for my own actions and participation in others lives and what I accept in mine. This time around I refuse to allow the distractions of anyone’s issues get in the way of my goals. Including my own! • Last Friday I ended the week at the @befearlesssummitt which was everything amazing! In my swag bag I found a free month of @headspace that I’ve been taking advantage of. If you’re clueless about what #headspace is (like I was). It’s a meditation guide that focuses on health and happiness. There’s meditation for work and kids, on sleep, stress, focus and anxiety. I’m seriously loving it all! • After a few life changing events and falling short on my routine meditation, I realized how crucial missing out on sessions were. The affect was powerful enough to make sure that I don’t miss a beat! It is a must to be aware of and use all of the resources that are available in order to stay on track with your health and well-being. I had two goals when I signed up for this 8 week mindfulness class. ✅ Quit rushing from task to task on the daily & stop to just notice the amazing things going on around me ✅ Learn to incorporate mindfulness into tough workouts & races - - The greatest takeaway for me from class this week was.... Mindfulness creates a pause between stimulus and response. 🧠 During this pause, we notice that we have options. And, we feel freedom and empowerment to choose the response rather than letting our ‘automatic’ response kick in. This ‘automatic’ response is also known as: mental habits. - - Our homework is to ‘practice’ inserting this pause. To disrupt our ‘normal’ mental habits that we have engrained and reinforced every time a similar situation occurs. So I set out to practice this today in my quality run session.... here’s how my mental habits around hard runs typically go: - - As soon as threshold work starts to feel hard (stimulus = feeling uncomfortable on a faster run) my mental habit response is <> Today I caught myself doing this approx 2 mins into a 20 min segment and I backtracked to the stimulus (discomfort) -<> and took that freight train of doubt in another direction. <> - - Ok, maybe the shut up mind wasn’t very ‘mindful’ but we’re all works in progress, right?! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 - - I’m by no means an expert at this. But this concept of inserting a pause into our trained mental habits strongly resonated with me and I promised I’d share helpful tips from my mindfulness class around these parts! What situations are you gonna insert your pause?! - - Don’t I totally look like I have a glow worm on my head?!
