What a time it was to run into one of my old teammates at the Wood! This guy right here was the team motivator and leader, always investing time and energy into others. It was a privilege sharing the field with him during his last year as I came in as a New transfer & walk on. Catching up brought back a lot of memories(Good & Bad lol). It takes a lot of effort to make something look effortless. That’s Walter (13 years of age), this morning, doing 8 x 400 with a 60 sec active recovery. That’s his 7th rep and as seen, is smooth, focused and efficient in his running form. As an athlete you have to make sure that you are training at all times with a focus on running efficiency and economy, so that when the time comes to push in a race, your form doesn’t break and you’re running at the highest efficiency possible. This post is really important for runners/athletes of all levels, as I can’t even begin to tell you how many people I see do this wrong. Bad running form leads to immense wastage of energy. Head moving in all directions, Over-striding, No control of arms and Tightness of shoulders leads to a total break in form during your run/race, but more importantly it puts you at risk for injuries too. You just can’t do any of the above in my opinion. Be hard on yourself! If you see my stories and videos, you’ll hear me say these words often: Rhythm...posture...relax your body... All of this prepares your physical structure to allow your efficiency to come about. Forward motion is crucial. A very slight forward straight lean is great for you. The drills that I have shared are on highlights and will share more soon. These will really help you. Do them!! Making adjustments are very important. All my athletes have issues like incorrect running movements and postures, but with focus we can get the gait and efficiency levels to be at its best in a given scenario, as seen with Walter. Rhythm-Posture-Relax-Smooth (RPRS): this is simple but make sure you focus on getting it right. It’s will take a big focused effort to make your form look effortless and hope this can help you!
