This is the Ticket to the Creek
I got my start in the restaurant industry at a restaurant very dear to my heart and unfortunately closed last year - The Fifth Ticket. The people there really set me up for success and I learned so much that I use every shift from those in every position there. We were the Fifth Family and still are, just more spread out than before. So for a competition where you have to take into account your bartending journey and #everybitearned I knew immediately that I had to play homage to the place I miss so much.
I thought of a few variations on how exactly to do this in a drink before I finally landed on this savoury and light cocktail with a robust mouthfeel. When I got my start behind the bar one of the first prep duties that I fell into doing was our watermelon syrup, and to this day I’m still proud of having that responsibility so I knew I had to incorporate watermelon into my drink. From there I thought hard about what flavours we were known for and landed on using flavours that played a big part in our kitchen - smoked paprika (for many things, like our popular wings), truffle oil and parmesan cheese (specifically for our popular house fries). Once I landed on these flavours I then had to figure out how to incorporate them into the drink while still celebrating the full flavour of #knobcreek bourbon and I think I did #justtheticket . By keeping the strong flavours of smoked paprika, truffle oil, and parmesan as things to compliment the main flavours of bourbon and watermelon I feel like I made a unique cocktail that celebrates both Knob Creek Kentucky Bourbon and The Fifth Ticket.
