Philip V Augustin ( @philipaugustin) is the fifth artist included in "Inspiration | Expression." Philip creates these abstract images by using props in his studio.
He writes, "One physical phenomenon I exploit in this work is the expansive and contractive tendency of adjacent tonalities; high-key (white) areas expand into low-key (black) areas. This phenomenon occurs in all photographic images; however, the viewer is rarely aware of it in a sharply focused, full-tone print because it occurs on a minute scale. By radically defocusing, using bold geometric shapes, and high contrast materials, the transition zones broaden and are readily visible." See this work "Negative #17-021-03" and four others from the series in the exhibit. Come by the gallery before the show closes on April 20th.
One of the artists in the "Inspiration | Expression" show is Brenda Biondo. This piece comes from her "Modalities" series.
About this series, Biondo writes, "These pieces are from my series Modalities, in which existing images in my digital archive are re-contextualized, drawing attention to and challenging the traditional creative practice of photographers. Each finished piece is a digital montage composed of cropped out-takes from the hundreds of images shot during the creation of my two previous series, Paper Skies and Moving Pictures. Because each component of a Modalities montage is an out-take from previous shoots, the series hints at the vast number of captured images that are "rejected" by photographers in the typical course of editing."
